Croydon Pl ant Manager
I have been in the industry for 35 years, working for various businesses ranging from family- run, medium-size and blue-chip companies. I have worked for FM Conway for approximately four years having been tuped over from Berkshire Macadams. I have been involved in both the dem- olition of the old asphalt plant at Aldershot and the construction and commissioning of the new Marini Top Tower 2000 which opened in September 2018. Together with my small team we provide a safe, reliable, quick and friendly collection service to the local area, as well as delivering asphalt to larger projects using the FM Conway fleet of vehicles.
I have been in the industry for 26 years and have had various roles starting as an unloading train operative, then moving to a machine driver, weighbridge supervisor, site supervisor, Asphalt Plant fitter, and then being promoted to Newhaven site Manager. I challenge myself and my colleagues to improve and to learn new skills. I also enjoy spending time with the family, fishing and golf, and relaxing in the sun on holiday when we can.
I started my career at Croydon Asphalt over eight years ago as an operative and since then have been fortunate enough to benefit from all sorts of training and development, which has enabled me to progress on to now being the Unit Manager. I have thoroughly enjoyed developing and progressing within an exciting organisation such as FM Conway. Being an exciting organisation means that every day offers a new challenge and opportunity to develop and for this reason I’m looking forward to furthering my career within the business.

Customer Survey
CUSTOMER SURVEY
Towards the end of 2020, we asked all our Conway Collect customers to provide feedback on what was important to them and how well the overall service met their expectations. The online survey results showed that customers value site safety as the most important factor when choosing who to collect asphalt from. All Conway Collect plants are committed to providing as safe an environment as possible for its people, customers and visitors. We really value
the feedback given by our customers and are committed to improving the overall Conway Collect service. In response to this feedback, at the very start of 2021, people at all Conway Collect plants took time out from asphalt production to review site safety from a customer’s perspective. This audit revealed several improvement areas, which are being addressed.

SITE SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS
At Reading Asphalt Plant improvements to the site entrance are being installed. These include a safer pedestrian access route, access road upgrades to help with vehicle queuing, and a new camera system to improve the site team’s visibility of the whole site. At Aldershot Asphalt Plant, following a detailed review of procedures, new site safety instructions have been issued to all Aldershot customers. These new leaflets and site plans will soon be accompanied featuring voiceovers in several languages to help all customers understand the rules clearly. Aldershot has also installed new lighting to help improve visibility during the dark winter mornings. As the year progresses, we will continue to update you on all the site safety improvements we implement. by a video showing the key safety messages and

Services
Our Collect plants can produce a range of standard materials including SMA, HRA and AC, all to a fast turnaround time.
We provide a quick turnaround, an onsite shop, recycling, refreshments, restrooms and wifi.
4 dedicated Conway Collect Asphalt plants
We aim to serve every customer on time to make sure you are able to complete your projects to deadline. We monitor ‘turnaround time’ at all of our Conway Collect plants. This is the average time taken for customers to arrive at our weighbridge, get loaded and depart. The graph to the right demonstrates that customers are served quickly at all four plants. Service times are consistent, but we do recognise that we can still improve further so we are now tracking the time your vehicles were served against the time the material was ordered for collection. This is to identify where
we can get better.
In order to maintain high service levels, we ask customers to advise us if you are running late for a collection, by contacting the order office to let us know.

GreenPatch
GreenPatch Permanent Pothole and Patch Repair cold lay asphalt has been developed using a biodegradable softener that reduces the dependence for petroleum derived products. It is designed as a cold lay instant and permanent pothole repair asphalt with all year round performance. GreenPatch is manufactured with recycled asphalt (RAP) and no petroleum based ‘cut-back’ solvents, making GreenPatch more environmentally friendly than alternative solutions. The GreenPatch properties allow performance and workability at cold temperatures. The material will not evaporate in the summer or ‘wax’ in the winter, which ensures a guaranteed shelf life of 12 months in bags and six months for bulk in open bays when stored correctly. GreenPatch Permanent Pothole and Patch Repair is manufactured using high PSV aggregate for added skid resistance and can be trafficked instantly. We sell 6mm and 10mm GreenPatch in 22.5kg bags, which are available at all Conway Collect plants. We can supply the products loose by the tonne at our Croydon Collect plant and at our Theale Aspahlt plant. We can also price delivery of bags on pallets into customer depots.
Features and Benefits • Conforms with PD6691 Wheel Track Rate.
• Workable in cold temperatures.
• Low maintenance and rapid installation makes GreenPatch the ideal cost-effective solution.
• No ‘primer’ or emulsions required.
• Suitable for Type 2, 3 and 4 low-risk roads in accordance with SROH (Specification of Openings in Highways).

NEWEST ADDITION TO THE CONWAY COLLECT BUSINESS
Newhaven Asphalt Plant, the newest addition to the Conway Collect business, is now serving a wide range of regular and loyal customers. We understand that plant availability is vital to help our customers working on utility repairs and upgrades.
To improve plant availability, we installed mains power at Newhaven in early February, which will remove the site’s reliance on generators. Further site improvements are planned for March, including construction of a new entrance as well as a dedicated parking and sheeting area for our Conway Collect customers.

Onsite Shop Sales
All our Conway Collect Asphalt plants have an onsite shop stocking a range of products. If there is anything that is not stocked that you would like
available, please contact the relevant weighbridge and let them know your requirements.
NEW PRODUCTS
We’re expanding the range of shop sales at all our Conway Collect plants giving our customers access to the right tools for the job. T-99 Release Agent is now available in 2L spray bottles. T-99 stops the accumulation of asphalt and bitumen on equipment and work tools. Using a
spray bottle helps apply T-99 more accurately and reduces wastage. We have added punners, watering cans and buckets to the range of shop items this month. Prices for all shop items are available from the sales office or at a weighbridge.
