In 1983, F.M. Conway Ltd. was presented with The Care for Croydon Award by Croydon Council. At the ceremony, there was a special guest appearance by Leslie Crowther, the man on my right, who hosted the popular TV show The Price Is Right .

received for this job, but I think we felt an equal measure of pride for the award we received from Croydon not long afterwards for being ‘the most considerate contractor in the Borough’. The award was presented by Leslie Crowther, an actor who was nearly as famous as the Queen at that time for his television game show The Price Is Right . What really mattered to us, though, was not the extra publicity but the new reputation that we were making for ourselves in the community as a contractor who cared. This was a reputation that we would do much to develop and defend over the coming years. B ut not all our work was high profile work of this kind.
