CYCLE SAFETY

London is subject to over 20 billion vehicle miles of traffic travelling around the capital each year and, although large goods vehicles account for only 5% of these miles, they account for 50% of the collisions that result in the death of a cyclist. At FM Conway, we are leaving no stone unturned in our efforts to eliminate this risk. We have implemented a range of new technologies across our fleet including direct vision cabs, AI (Artificial Intelligence) auto-steer lane assist, and automated braking systems, as well as new cameras and lower cabs to assist with driver vision. FM Conway is also a long-standing supporter of the ‘Exchanging Places’ initiative where, in partnership with the Metropolitan Police and Transport for London, we allow cyclists to sit in the cab of a large lorry to better understand the vision of a driver and improve their safety as they cycle around London.

FM Conway has supported the Conway Charitable Foundation with £700,000 of donations since its formation in 2013.

Throughout last year, the foundation continued to help a variety of charities and local organisations which included some funding for community laptops.

Here are just a few that received our support:

“Road safety is a massive issue nationwide but especially in the capital and we are delighted to help wherever we can” Peter Parle - Transport Manager, FM Conway Peter appeared on ITV News to discuss FM Conway’s commitments to improving cyclist’s safety

CARGO BIKES IN THE COMMUNITY

As well as the carbon and air quality benefits to our cargo bikes, Will Thompson, one of our cargo bike riders, added a Christmas twist to delivery methods on the Illuminated River Project. Taking on the role of Santa Claus, Will helped to deliver Christmas presents around London as part of our collaboration with the Illuminated River Foundation. Coin Street Community Builders are a social enterprise working in Waterloo and North Southwark and have been delivering 250 Christmas care packages to people in need in the local area and, this year, we were delighted to lend a helping hand. This is an incredible initiative and thanks to our cargo bikes we were ready with our very own Conway Claus to help spread some Christmas joy around the capital.

ROYAL BRITISH LEGION

Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI) is a charity that provides employment, support, housing and care to the British Armed Forces community. The Conway Charitable Foundation is now in its second year of a five-year commitment to support the excellent work of the charity, which will amount to £250,000 over five years.
