FM Conway - Our Social Value Highlights 2024-2025 | 3

INTRODUCTION At FM Conway, we believe that delivering social value is not a separate ambition; it’s part of how we do business. As we continue to grow and evolve, our commitment to making a positive impact on people, communities and the environment remains central to everything we do. From health and safety to equity, diversity and inclusion, and from carbon reduction to community partnerships, our values of Care, Excellence, Integrity and Innovation are embedded in the way we operate. Our award-winning approaches ensure our people feel safe, supported and empowered, while our drive for innovation helps us meet the challenges of climate change head-on. But our responsibility goes beyond our own workforce and operations. We recognise the importance of standing alongside the communities we serve, especially during challenging times. That’s why our partnerships with organisations such as Royal British Legion Industries, Street Soccer, and Chapter One are so important, providing support to veterans through rehabilitation, helping young people combat homelessness, and improving literacy for children who need it most. These efforts are a reflection of what we stand for and show what’s possible when we work together with our people, partners and communities. They’re not just standalone initiatives; they’re part of our wider commitment to making a meaningful difference.

This report brings those contributions to life, outlining the value we create for a broad range of stakeholders, from our employees and customers, to the communities we serve and the environment we all share. It’s a testament to what we’ve achieved and showcases how we’re continuing to grow as a business with purpose.

I hope you enjoy the report, and thank you for taking the time to explore the impact we’re making.

AN UNRIVALLED COMMITMENT TO OUR CUSTOMERS

Collaborating on the Circular Economy FM Conway has been incorporating Recycled Asphalt Product (RAP) into its surfacing materials for many years, but the ultimate example of a circular economy is to re-use RAP within the same project. In March 2023, FM Conway secured a place on National Highways’ Pavement Delivery Framework for the South Region. Just a few months later, we were asked to resurface the southbound carriageway of the A34 Newbury Bypass, which had lost skid resistance and suffered from poor ride quality and carriageway rutting. Our circular approach saw planed materials removed on day one of the scheme, recycled, reprocessed and re-laid by day three.

At FM Conway, we believe that anyone who interacts with our works is a customer. By engaging positively with the communities we operate in, we recognise that we are enhancing job satisfaction for our workforce, supporting local people and businesses, and ultimately delivering excellent customer service. Better by Design An example of this is our collaboration with TfL and local community groups to deliver a three-tier assessment approach on various highway projects. The objective is to ensure that the needs of cyclists and pedestrians of all abilities are considered when temporary road layouts are designed around roadworks or construction. The circular economy measures implemented at Newbury saved an estimated 98,000 kg of CO 2 e

Tier 1: Pre-Design Focus groups walk worksites with contractors and the highway authority to identify daily barriers to access.

How It Works The three-tiered approach is a powerful tool for enhancing safety and inclusivity, whilst temporary road works are being delivered. To see how this concept works in practice, let’s break down the Three-Tier Assessment:

Tier 3: During Construction

Focus groups return to the worksite during construction to provide feedback on the implemented designs and suggest improvements. This ensures the roadworks continue to evolve to enhance the experience and safety of all users.

Tier 2: Design Based on Feedback New designs are created and delivered considering feedback with the insights from Tier 1.

GREAT PEOPLE : GREAT WORK

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion – All Great People At FM Conway, we strive to embed equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) throughout every level of our business. All Great People is our EDI strategy, which reflects our commitment to making FM Conway a welcoming and inclusive place for everyone in our diverse and ever-evolving society. We’re proud that inclusion and diversity are part of who we are. This commitment helps us attract top talent, drive innovation and share best practice across the business. Women into Construction Our long-term goal is for women to represent 30% of our workforce by 2030. To help achieve this, we are implementing a number of approaches. FM Conway is working hard to promote career pathways and opportunities portraying females that challenge stereotypes, ensuring we actively collaborate with industry partners such as National Highways, Transport for London (TfL), and the Civil Engineering Contractor Association (CECA) to develop new initiatives. These include TfL’s Women in Transport and Engineering (WiTnE) programme, which supports long-term unemployed women back into the workplace, and partnerships with schools to provide female-only work experience programmes.

“We are delighted with the impact of our ‘All Great People’ Strategy over the last five years and we have recently released our strategy update to 2030, to ensure we continue building on the firm foundation we have created.” Ella Cole , Head of EDI, FM Conway

We host bi-annual Women’s Day

Apprenticeships provide an excellent way to shape the long-term makeup of our workforce and the future of our business. Of our newest cohort, 25% are female, with six in operational roles.

For the many women who work for us, but who do not aspire to leadership roles, we introduced ‘Personal Best’. This programme supports women to be their best and most confident selves.

events, inviting every woman from across the business to our Head Office in Sevenoaks. The event gives our female employees the opportunity to network, hear from inspirational speakers, and discuss challenges and opportunities relevant to women in our industry.

Disability Confident Leader FM Conway is proud to be a Disability Confident Leader. In 2020, when we first launched our ‘All Great People’ strategy, Goal 4 (of our eight goals on diversity and inclusion) focused on increasing diversity through better representation of the disabled community. As a Disability Confident leader, we have made a number of changes to our working practices and recruitment processes to ensure that we are attracting, retaining, and supporting our diverse workforce and the communities that we serve. We have been delighted to do this with the support of The Education People. Their Specialist Employment Service offers a range of support to help individuals gain and sustain paid employment. By providing training and in-work support, they help reduce recruitment costs and improve retention. They’ve been a valuable partner in shaping our understanding and supporting our successful journey to becoming a Disability Confident Leader. “FM Conway has displayed all the attributes we champion in an organisation’s approach to attracting and retaining disabled people. They are a pleasure to work with.” David Stenning , The Education People

Great Leaders Programme Our Great Leaders Programme gives our people the skills and confidence to step out of their comfort zone, challenge the status quo, and become great authentic leaders with a shared vision and direction. The course operates at three levels: Preparing for Leadership, Effective Leadership, and Expert Leaders, and has already benefited over 160 employees. It has proved a successful way to identify and develop talent, while also helping to embed FM Conway’s values throughout the organisation. The leadership skills gained not only enhance the working environment and improve team performance, but also contribute to greater job satisfaction for many beyond those attending the course. “The course not only helped me better shape working relationships and improve team performance, many of the skills enhanced my life outside of work. The course tutors were outstanding.” Natalie Ovel , Senior Contract Manager, FM Conway

Employees interviewed said they would have no hesitation in recommending the course to colleagues

90%+ of participants interviewed rated the programme and trainers as ‘excellent’

PART OF THE FABRIC OF OUR COMMUNITIES

“Working with companies like FM Conway, who have the vision and drive to look at new and innovative ways of delivering and improving services, is as important to us as their longstanding charitable support.” Sarah Bolton , CEO, The Lighthouse Club

Reimagining our Charity Partnerships

FM Conway is a longstanding supporter of The Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity (The Lighthouse Club) and the outstanding work they do. However, in recent years, the relationship has evolved, with the Lighthouse Club now in its second year of delivering our Employer Assistance Programme (EAP), operating as both a valued supplier and charity partner. Social Value recognises and champions the increased use of Voluntary, Community, and Social Enterprises (VCSE) within company supply chains, supporting organisations like the Lighthouse Club to grow and prosper. “We are delighted to have re-imagined the partnership we have with The Lighthouse Club, and to be benefiting from the excellence they bring to our EAP, utilising a wealth of experience on the 3 pillars of good mental health and wellbeing: emotional, physical and financial wellbeing.” Liz Garvey , HR Director, FM Conway

London Construction Academy

“As founding partners of the LCA, FM Conway proudly supports the delivery of this unique programme. We are embedded within the process, and work with our customers and partners to ensure that they help to provide employment pathways and opportunities for the students.” Maria Pratt , Customer Experience Director, FM Conway and Board Trustee, LCA It’s an approach that works, with over 40% of people completing the 12-day programme going on to find employment or further training.

Now an independent charity in its own right, the London Construction Academy (LCA) has been changing lives since 2014. The Board of Trustees, made up of representatives from the construction community, are passionate about delivering real change for disadvantaged groups in society, especially young people not in education, employment or training (NEETs). Based on an original idea by Michael Conway OBE, FM Conway has been integral to the LCA since its formation. While the LCA offers essential certifications required to enter the industry, it provides so much more. Student welfare is absolutely fundamental to the LCA. As part of the programme, individuals receive a fully funded travel card and complimentary daily lunch throughout the course. This ensures they can focus entirely on learning and training without worrying about costs.

FM Conway - Our Social Value Highlights 2024-2025 | 11

“I know I speak for everyone at RBLI when I say we are incredibly grateful to FM Conway for their continued support and their generous donation of £25,000 towards the Centenary Village this year. Their funding is helping us provide homes for veterans and it’s wonderful to know that FM Conway shares our commitment to supporting those who’ve served. Partnerships like this remind us of the great impact we can have when charities and companies work together to create opportunities. Thank you FM Conway for your ongoing support and standing with us.” Lisa Farmer OBE , Chief Executive, RBLI

Working with the Veteran Community

In addition to being recognised by the Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme, at Gold Level, for our work in supporting and recruiting ex-servicemen and women, we have also formed a longstanding relationship with Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI). The RBLI undertake a broad range of excellent schemes to support those who have served our country and are now facing challenges in their lives. In 2019, the centenary year of RBLI, FM Conway undertook a five-year commitment to support their vision for 100 new homes for ex-servicemen and women, building on RBLI’s outstanding track record over the last 100 years. That initial commitment ended last year, but we have pledged to continue supporting RBLI’s ambitions to provide more support for female veterans in need. In particular, there is a chronic lack of housing for female veterans, and we are pleased to support RBLI to address this gap by funding the construction of new homes. We see in RBLI both a track record of excellence and a drive to continually improve. These values resonate strongly with FM Conway, and we are proud to partner with this outstanding organisation.

Chapter One FM Conway has recently supported Chapter One, a charity that helps children learn to read via a weekly online mentoring session. The charity focuses on creating a world where all children have the literacy skills needed to thrive, and provides one-to-one reading support at a time when they need it most. This year, nine colleagues took part in a volunteering initiative that ran from autumn 2024 into 2025.

Our volunteers were paired with pupils from Edith Neville Primary School in the London Borough of Camden. Teachers from the school identified nine children aged 5-8 who would benefit from reading support and matched them with our volunteers. Each week, for 30 minutes, the reading partners met online for a reading session. In total, nine FM Conway employees volunteered 66.4 hours across 178 sessions, helping nine children in need of additional educational support. To see the eagerness of children to take part and the positive impact it is having on both their reading ability and general confidence is excellent, but it’s not just the children who benefit. The feedback from our people is equally as positive! “I feel ever so thankful to FM Conway for introducing me to a charity that takes pride in helping children grow, not only to increase their reading abilities, but also in confidence and imagination.” “Working with my reading buddy has been really rewarding, it’s amazing to see how much they’ve improved in such a short time – their confidence grows each session, and they’re really engaged.” “It’s a great way to spend half an hour of my week, and a privilege to be part of their learning journey.”

“Chapter One has made a huge impact on our pupils’ reading. It has helped to build their confidence in reading, given them vital reading practice and developed strong reading partnerships. We will continue to make use of this fantastic opportunity to improve early reading

skills. Thank you.” Teacher , Edith Neville School

“It’s always great to get new supporters on board. The impact the reading volunteers have is huge and we hope this is the start of a longer partnership with FM Conway.” Anna Ansted , Head of Corporate Partnerships, Chapter One

FM Conway Extends its Support of the Street Soccer Foundation

As important as it is, there is more to being part of the fabric of your community than simply supporting the work of great charities and community organisations. Sometimes it is about seeing and understanding a need in your community and taking a chance on people and organisations with the passion to change things. Ten years ago, that’s exactly what FM Conway did with the Street Soccer Foundation, supporting the vision and drive of its founder, Keith Mabbutt. We funded the first-ever Street Soccer Academy programme, hosted by Maidstone United, which took homeless young people off the streets and used football as a way to engage them while delivering life skills, health and wellbeing support, and employment and training advice. Now in its 10th year, the Street Soccer Foundation continues to use the power of football to positively change the lives of homeless and vulnerable young people across the country through its 12-week personal development courses. The courses cover a mixture of football coaching, positive mindset training, mentoring support, skills and employability workshops, and aim to help participants progress into employment, education, or further training. The Academy programme, which is now run in partnership with professional football club community organisations throughout the UK, saw 12 different FM Conway-sponsored Academy groups supported over the 2023-24 season. These groups benefited from coaching and development through partnerships with high-profile clubs such as Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace, Chelsea and West Ham United.

FM Conway’s investment has already seen the Academy programme become the UK’s number one football-led project tackling youth homelessness in England, and the business will now look to further build upon its relationship with the Street Soccer Foundation as it heads towards its 10-year anniversary.

“When I walked into FM Conway’s offices 10 years ago, I had the idea and a

passion to help make a positive change to youth homelessness. When I left, I had the funding to prove the concept could work. FM Conway’s continued belief and support of our charity has enabled us to grow year on year as we strive to help as many young people as we possibly can through our proven Academy programme.” Keith Mabbutt, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Street Soccer Foundation

SUSTAINABILITY

For over 30 years, FM Conway has pioneered sustainable construction activities that have ultimately led to a significant improvement in material

We understand the importance of resource efficiency and the environmental value of land, and how true sustainability weaves together our commitment to the environment with our commercial and social drivers. These three key areas form the foundation of our sustainability strategy, outlined below.

efficiency, and we are recognised as industry leaders in the use of recycled aggregates.

By our baseline reporting year 2030/31, we will have reduced our Scope 1 and 2 emissions from the 2019 baseline to 28,191 tCO 2 e. This is a reduction of 50%. By our reporting year 2045/46, we will have become a net zero organisation for Scope 1 & 2.

Our Net-Zero Commitment FM Conway is targeting Net-Zero Carbon (Scopes 1 & 2) by 2045, five years ahead of the Government deadline. Set against a 2019 baseline, we have begun mapping a credible roadmap to net zero through a range of measures covering all key aspects of our operations, and we have already established a track record of delivery. Compared with the baseline reporting year, annual emissions have reduced by 4,192 tCO 2 e – representing a 7.4% reduction. However, in relation to our carbon intensity ratio, we have reduced our carbon per £million turnover by 37%, from 143 tCO 2 e to 90 tCO 2 e per £1m. This is a good indication that we are beginning to decouple business growth from carbon emissions. Our target for this year is to reduce our carbon emissions from a baseline of 56,382 tCO 2 e to 42,286 tCO 2 e.

A Track Record of Delivery We are pleased to confirm that as of the latest reporting year (FY 2024/25), we have delivered an annual emissions reduction for the third consecutive year. Compared with the baseline reporting year, annual emissions have been reduced by 8,348 tCO 2 e – representing a 15% reduction in absolute emissions. On an intensity ratio basis of tCO 2 e per £1m revenue, compared with the baseline reporting year of 143 tCO 2 e per £1m, this has reduced to 79 tCO 2 e per £1m – representing a 45% reduction. In addition to the 15% reduction in absolute CO2e reductions achieved, to meet our March 2025 target of 42,286 tCO 2 e, we offset an additional 10% of our baseline using voluntary carbon units. These units support credible projects around the world in alignment with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

Creating Engagement in our Net Zero Aspirations

As part of our net zero aspirations, we are ensuring that we bring our people along with us and have developed a low carbon workshop (‘The Road to Net Zero’) module and toolbox talk. Both have been rolled out to our staff, to promote and influence carbon reduction within every division. Further to this, we have introduced our Sustainability Fund, which is an employee incentive scheme designed to generate innovative ideas from within the business regarding sustainability. We are looking to tap into the creativity, innovation, and expertise of our people to engage them in the process and make sure that great ideas do not get overlooked. The best ideas will be rewarded financially.

GOING THE EXTRA MILE

What our communities and customers think about our work and our people is immensely important to us. To reflect this, we share a few examples of the feedback we receive in every edition of our Construct magazine. It’s great that our people know their efforts are appreciated, and understanding the impact of our efforts inspires us to do even more! As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, all feedback received from our customers, clients and partners is documented in our Customer Relationship Management System. This is reviewed, monitored and, importantly, shared across the business. “FM Conway – the best team I have met on surfacing works. They consistently pay attention to their safety on site, such as PPE, moving plant, having banksmen available, and the quality of their work.” Petre Andreescu , National Highways

“Really efficient from start to finish. Plenty of notification prior to the work. Team appeared when they said they would, carried out the work amazingly swiftly, even managing to work around a car left in the street. Cheerful team. Beautiful new surface, and no mess left behind. Thank you.” Member of the Public , Arundel, West Sussex

“I just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone at FM Conway and Flowline who helped deliver the highway response to Storm Babet. Everyone involved dug in and went above and beyond. Big thanks.” Jonathan Evans, Lincolnshire County Council

“I must say, I think FM Conway are a class act. Really nice men, always polite and very mindful of minimising disruption.” Member of the St John’s Wood Residents Society

“I wanted to thank you for your kind donation of the pots that were removed from Sloane Square and given to us for our upcoming garden project. Kensington Primary School is quite a new school and over the past few years the PTA has slowly been raising funds to supply the school with items it did not have, and finally this year we will be renovating the garden space on the roof that requires some real TLC. Thank you again for your time, for being part of the lovely renovation of Sloane Street and for helping make our school a better place for the children to learn about gardening and to have a place to relax with nature.” Member of the Public , Sloane Street, London

“I would like to express my thanks to your entire team, especially the operatives and supervisors on site. The crew on site has exceeded all expectations regarding the programme targets through sheer hard work. A huge thanks to them for consistently going above and beyond and delivering outstanding workmanship. What a team!” Paul Mbanugo , London Borough of Southwark

WHERE NEXT?

Social Value FM Conway has always taken a ‘continuous improvement’ approach to all that we do, including our social value impact. Our greatest impact is on our employees, and they remain the heartbeat of our organisation. Guided by our core values, we want working at FM Conway to enhance our people’s lives. We look to achieve this through a broad range of initiatives, including a commitment to training, which helps maximise job performance and job satisfaction, looking after our people’s physical and mental health, and providing an inclusive and diverse workplace. Our recently updated EDI Strategy, taking the company through to 2030, is a key document for outlining our plans and aspirations. Environmental Leadership Our Carbon Reduction Plan provides a detailed and credible plan to achieve our net zero targets. We are proud to uphold our long tradition of leading environmental innovation and commitment. Our approach will continue to engage our people, our customers and our suppliers. Through this collaborative approach, we are confident we will remain at the forefront of innovation and performance in delivering and maintaining sustainable UK infrastructure. Community Engagement Deeply rooted in our communities, we will continue to find new ways in which we can support those facing disadvantages and challenges, primarily through supporting some of the organisations which do such outstanding work in our communities. The work of the Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI) in supporting our veteran community, Street Soccer in helping disadvantaged young people find a focus and pathway forward, and The Lighthouse Club in supporting those facing challenges in the construction industry, are just three examples of longstanding partnerships in which we take great pride. Underpinning everything we do will be a commitment to delivering excellence in all aspects of our work, our communities and our environment.
