Many of our colleagues are faced with difficult scenarios whilst at work. One of those can be discovering a member of the public who is in trouble and sometimes even looking to take their own life.

As Joe went to return to his car to put his hazard lights on, the girl then jumped up and started to climb the bridge railings. However, she was swiftly stopped by Adam and Joe, who ran back, pulled her away and sat her down on the floor. They then stayed with her to calm her down and reassure her, whilst they waited for polic to arrive.

Meanwhile, Slawomir and Steve were further along the road, calling the police to find out where they were.

Earlier this year, members of our Water & Drainage Management team were faced with such a scenario.

This incredible act of care and bravery helped to save the girl’s life that day, and we would like to recognise these colleagues for their admirable actions in the face of adversity. Working in the construction industry, this is something our teams see more often than the ‘average’ person, and we are proud to have colleagues who truly represent our ethos of great people : great work.

In February, in the early hours of the morning, Adam Beggs, Joe Mulvey, Slawomir Dominik and Steve Wickham were crossing a bridge over the A27, when they drove past a girl looking very distressed. Noticing she was upset, the team pulled over and went to speak with her, to check if she was ok. Adam and Joe stayed and talked with her, whilst Slawomir and Steve quietly phoned the police.
