JOANNE CONWAY FOREWORD
Introducing Issue 6 of your Rewarding Great People Publication
Welcome to the latest issue of your Rewarding Great People publication, designed to inform you all about the latest initiatives and benefits available to you and your families. As always, supporting our people remains our central focus, and in this edition we will be unveiling some exciting new programmes and policies which are set to enhance your working life at FM Conway. Not only that, but we remain committed to the protection of our planet’s natural resources and to developing forward-thinking ideas that ensure our environment can also thrive. We know that some of the greatest ideas come from our own people, so please remember our Sustainability Fund initiative where you can put forward your ideas related to sustainability to really help us make those positive changes.
Also in this publication, we reiterate our commitment to fostering a culture of equity, diversity and inclusion throughout our business and beyond, with updates on our EDI forums, and our ongoing community engagement. Plus, we shine a spotlight on our emerging talent, and showcase the importance our business places on developing the next generation of FM Conway. These are all great examples of how we are continually exploring new opportunities and developing FM Conway to ensure your workplace environment is one that allows everybody to thrive and grow alongside our business.
I hope you enjoy reading and I look forward to sharing more updates with you in the future.

SPEND YOUR REWARDS!
Your Rewarding Great People portal offers you a range of benefits and rewards, including the option to earn cashback on your purchases from hundreds of retailers, and recognition points from your colleagues. Due to a recent system upgrade by Boostworks, any cashback and reward points earned on Rewarding Great People will need to be used within a 12-month period. This means that any cashback or points on your balance that was earned over 12 months ago, will be removed from your account. From that point onwards, any expired cashback or points will be automatically removed on a daily basis.
To spend your points, please log into the portal, select the recognition tab at the top of the page and then click ‘Spend Your Points’ where you will be directed to a catalogue of items to spend your points on. Here you can browse through the reward catalogue and see the fantastic range of products available for you to spend your points on. There are over 25,000 products to choose from and if you don’t have enough points just yet, don’t worry, you can top up your payment using a credit or debit card. To avoid your cashback expiring, we recommend that you login to Rewarding Great People regularly and either spend or transfer your cashback balance to a reloadable gift card, or your bank account. As long as you have spent or transferred the value you have earned before it reaches the 12-month validity period, it won’t expire. So, make sure you keep an eye on both your cashback and points balance!

SAVING FOR THE FUTURE
As part of your benefits package, FM Conway gives you the opportunity to pay into a pension scheme, and also contributes to your pension pot to help you save for the future. This works as part of a Salary Exchange Scheme, which means you will make Income Tax and National Insurance savings on the amount you contribute into your pension pot. Essentially, the more you contribute, the more you can save to enjoy later in life. You may not realise, but you are also automatically enrolled into the company pension scheme, provided you meet the requirements. Please make sure that you regularly review your pension arrangements to ensure that you are happy with the payments that you are making, or to make any changes if needed. If you wish to increase the percentage that you contribute to your pension, then please contact: HR@fmconway.co.uk .
You can also move any previous pensions you hold, so that they are in one place, by contacting your pension provider.
Fortnightly paid employees can get more details on their scheme here: The Peoples Pension
Monthly paid employees can get more details on their scheme here: ScottishWidows
Please remember you must inform your pension provider directly regarding your dependents or beneficiaries, in case the worst should happen, as this is dealt with separately to your life assurance.

ON YOUR BIKE!
Did you know you can access our Cycle to Work scheme through Rewarding Great People? We have partnered with the Green Commute Initiative on a Cycle to Work scheme that allows you to hire a bicycle, including conventional bikes, electric bikes, and cargo bikes, for your daily commute. The scheme works via a salary sacrifice arrangement, in which (depending on your tax rate) you can save between 28-42%. This is because you won’t pay tax or National Insurance on the amount of salary you sacrifice. Aside from the financial benefit, there are also many other advantages to cycling to work. Here are just some of them: A healthier you – both in mind and body Reaching your fitness goals more quickly A happier you as you become healthier and fitter Enjoying your commute to work so you arrive on time and feeling energised
Becoming more effective in your work
Saving money on fuel and car parking costs Environmental benefits - less congestion and pollution through lower emissions and noise

Jazzmine Matthews was a colleague that wasn’t seeking assistance, but found that My Dream was there to help in her time of need:
“I’d heard about My Dream, but I’d never thought I’d need help. It never even crossed my mind to put in a request, so it came as such a surprise when they reached out to me.
“That was a massive lift. Not only was I worried about my brother, but I hadn’t thought about how to pay for everything.
“In July last year I received a call about my brother, Josh, who lives in Spain with his fiancé and two children.
“Thankfully, Josh is okay now, but at the time I didn’t know if I was going to lose him or not.
“All I was told was that I needed to get out to Spain because Josh was in hospital.
“My Dream came and supported me when I was at my worst, and It took so much of the stress out of the situation.
“So, I got the first flights I could from Stansted. It’s nowhere near me, and it was the summer holidays, so everything was booked up and expensive, but I just put everything on a credit card and thought I’d worry about it later. “I flew to Malaga and went straight to the hospital where I was told that he was in the ICU after falling from a balcony. He’d fallen from a great height and his lungs wouldn’t inflate, so he had to be kept on a ventilator. “I stayed for eight days straight before I had to fly back home. But I took every Friday off work for the next seven weeks, as I flew back and forth between here and Spain. “Then Maria Pratt reached out to me and said that Joanne Conway had heard about my situation and wanted to help pay for my flights.
“It’s such an amazing thing that FM Conway offers, and I want other people to see that the company we work for do care.
“I’m in awe of a company that would do this for their staff, and I was just taken aback by the gesture.
“My family and I are forever grateful.”

Recruiting the Future of our Business Every year we take on large numbers of apprentices across our business and this year we are keen to take on more apprentices than ever. If you have a family member or friend that would be interested in an apprenticeship opportunity at FM Conway, we encourage individuals to sign up for our apprenticeship updates by filling in the application form on our website. For employee family members we guarantee an interview, and therefore we would like to encourage you to put forward any friends or family members looking to start their career!
EMERGING TALENT SPOTLIGHT Apprenticeships offer a great first step into the industry, providing a blended ‘Earning and Learning’ opportunity to help people reach their potential. We recognise the importance that they play in our future and we are always looking at new ways to improve our apprenticeship programme and enhance the development of our emerging talent. Our programme now offers several new events and initiatives designed to truly help develop the knowledge of our apprentices and build their skills beyond their core job roles.
Take a glimpse at some of the initiatives on offer.
12
Apprentice Breakfasts New for this year is the introduction of Apprentice Breakfasts with our apprentice sponsor, James Tallon. This is a great opportunity for our apprentices to meet with James, share their experiences on the programme so far, discuss their aspirations for the future, and also learn from James’ knowledge as a mentor. So far, we have held two successful breakfasts, and it is great to see our apprentices engaging in insightful discussions and sharing their ideas for future improvements to the programme and our business. “I found the breakfast really beneficial and enjoyed speaking with James and the other apprentices. It was a good opportunity to catch up and put some names to faces.
“I feel much better about approaching people after this and I liked how it was a relaxed setting.“ - Steph Warner
“It was an excellent opportunity to talk to senior management in a light-hearted environment and find out about James’ journey and how he and FM Conway have developed over the years. “It was a brilliant switch up from my usual mornings and it was good hearing James’ future aspirations for the company and us, the new generation.” - Ben Whistlecroft

National Apprentice Week 2024
Enrichment Events
National Apprenticeship Week 2024 was a chance to recognise the skills and knowledge that the next generation of talent has to offer, and to celebrate not only our apprentices who are currently working towards their qualifications, but also our apprentice graduates who are now taking the next step in their careers. Across the week, our teams were in attendance at various careers fairs and events, promoting FM Conway and our learning opportunities to our wider communities.
We welcomed apprentices to our head office in Sevenoaks to participate in a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style workshop. The workshop focused on how digitalisation can improve a business, with the aim to operate as a simulation which would develop and assess entrepreneurial skills and provide feedback on our apprentices’ ability to work effectively in teams. To assess their abilities, the participants were given the challenge of developing and pitching an idea to our ‘Dragons’ on how to improve FM Conway in terms of digitalisation and efficiency.
We welcomed our first ever T-Level students, Annie and Milly, to the business, which marked a new avenue of recruitment for FM Conway. We also hosted our apprentices at Conway House for our first Apprentice Enrichment Event of 2024. It was a great day, which gave our apprentices the opportunity to give feedback on how we can improve the current programme and learn about what they look for in a career to ensure they are properly supported.

Emerging Professionals Conference
We were proud to have four of our apprentices representing FM Conway at the CIHT Emerging Professionals Conference 2024. The event saw professionals from across the highways, transportation and infrastructure sector join influential names within the industry to discuss and hear about key issues.
Throughout the challenge they also received support and coaching by ‘Industry Experts’ made up of various representatives from around the business.
Exploring the role of data and artificial intelligence in transport’, and featured speakers from academia, local and national government, covering a range of topics curated by the CIHT’s Emerging Careers Professional Network. It was a great event in which our apprentices could hear insights about the future direction of the industry, as well as getting the inside track on emerging trends and innovations from experts on areas that matter to our business.
This covered several important developmental topics such as
understanding customer and commercial awareness, building business cases, and how to communicate ideas effectively to a range of audiences. This event displayed a great level of energy and drive from all of our apprentices, and they also received a high level of feedback and insight from our Industry Experts and Dragons which proved extremely valuable.
This year’s conference focused on the theme of ‘The Digital Evolution:

THE PERFECT MATCH Did you know that the Conway Charitable Foundation can help you in your fundraising efforts, thanks to our Match Funding Scheme? The Conway Charitable Foundation was created to offer financial support to local charities and organisations that are most in need. However, it also offers support for colleagues in their charitable activities through a minimum donation of £250. This is for any colleague undertaking an organised charity activity, and we also encourage colleagues to develop their own fundraising activities, in which we will provide support wherever possible.
So many of our colleagues across the business enter into a variety of charity fundraising events, helping to raise money for some fantastic causes, and we are delighted to be able to offer this support through the Conway Charitable Foundation. Our business has always been centred around supporting each other; whether that is local charities, businesses or other organisations within our communities, and it is great to see you all being so active about helping those in need.

ALL GREAT PEOPLE
In 2020, we launched our ‘All Great People’ strategy, which set out our goals for establishing an environment that allows everyone to do their best, and maintaining an inclusive culture through our own workforce, our clients, suppliers, and the communities we serve. We recognise that diversity is key to the sustainability of our business, as well as the clients and communities we work with and for, and for the past four years, we have been working hard to deliver this plan. To build on this momentum, the next stage is to bring in the right people to spearhead our ongoing efforts, and we are delighted to welcome Ellie Stevenson as our Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) Manager. Ellie joined our business in 2016 and has demonstrated her passion and commitment for both continuous improvement and people in her role as Business Support Manager over the past eight years.
“In 2023, I returned to work after having my first son and was ready for a fresh challenge. I am now a part-time working mum and I am passionate about leaving a lasting legacy for future generations. At FM Conway, we are responsible for communities; we maintain the infrastructure that keeps society moving and we have a responsibility to ensure that this is inclusive, diverse and equitable. As D&I Manager I want to provide my colleagues with the tools that allow them to make the right decision for themselves, their colleagues, friends and family, and for our customers.” - Ellie Stevenson
In her role as D&I Manager she will now be responsible for delivering our ‘All Great People’ strategy.

“I’m really pleased that FM Conway is now offering the opportunity to volunteer. It was a pleasure working alongside colleagues (some of whom I had never previously met) for a common good. A great team building experience and one that makes you proud to be part of the FM Conway family.” - Nick Burman “I’m so proud to work for a business that offers volunteering opportunities. It’s such a great way to make a positive impact on our communities and the perfect way to bring colleagues together. I can’t wait to take part in more!” - Caroline Selvage “Our five person team had a wonderful day assisting RBLI with their great work. It was immensely satisfying to give our time where it was most needed, and also learn how the money raised is spent helping veterans with hugely diverse needs re-integrate into civilian life. I would do this again without hesitation.” - Neil Brabiner

AN UPDATE FROM OUR DISABILITY CONFIDENT FORUM
Our Disability Confident Forum has been making great strides so far, with a number of our colleagues meeting regularly to discuss ideas for workplace improvements to benefit those with disabilities. This is one of our EDI forums which are virtual sessions, created to give employees and stakeholders an opportunity to contribute to developing our inclusive workplace and discuss important societal issues around diversity. We have held two very engaging sessions so far and are already working through a list of actions that will help develop FM Conway for the better.
20
Our completed and ongoing actions currently include:
Forum members have volunteered to be featured on new disability-focused website pages, to discuss their experiences and how the business has supported them If you share our passion about equal opportunities within FM Conway, then you may wish to join one of our EDI Forums to discuss some of the important issues that we tackle and help us continue making a difference.
The creation of a comprehensive accessibility checklist to be used at our depots. The audit ensures depots are accessible and looks to identify any necessary changes. Forum members have volunteered to carry out these audits – three depot audits have been completed so far Upgrading the fire alarm system to include flashing lights as an additional precaution that will benefit those with hearing impairments Forum members have volunteered to champion the Three-Tier Assessment across the business. This is a TfL initiative that ensures the needs of cyclists and pedestrians of all abilities are considered when temporary road layouts are designed

Each month our Aggregates and Asphalt (A&A) team has been doing their bit for charity by making a conscious effort to fundraise for different causes on the last Friday of every month. As part of Conway House’s Dress Down Friday policy, the team has been choosing a charity, such as Mind, Cancer Research, or Macmillan, as well as picking a theme or colour that relates to that charity.
Members of the team then wear an item of clothing matching the theme and everyone who takes part donates £2, with all of the money being donated to the charity of choice. As a result of this initiative, the team has now raised an incredible £1,000 for various different charities in the past year! Take a look at the breakdown of how much the A&A team has raised so far:
