AN UNRIVALLED COMMITMENT TO OUR CUSTOMERS

Collaborating on the Circular Economy FM Conway has been incorporating Recycled Asphalt Product (RAP) into its surfacing materials for many years, but the ultimate example of a circular economy is to re-use RAP within the same project. In March 2023, FM Conway secured a place on National Highways’ Pavement Delivery Framework for the South Region. Just a few months later, we were asked to resurface the southbound carriageway of the A34 Newbury Bypass, which had lost skid resistance and suffered from poor ride quality and carriageway rutting. Our circular approach saw planed materials removed on day one of the scheme, recycled, reprocessed and re-laid by day three.

By engaging positively with the communities we operate in, we recognise that we are enhancing job satisfaction for our workforce, supporting local people and businesses, and ultimately delivering excellent customer service. Better by Design An example of this is our collaboration with TfL and local community groups to deliver a three-tier assessment approach on various highway projects. The objective is to ensure that the needs of cyclists and pedestrians of all abilities are considered when temporary road layouts are designed around roadworks or construction. The circular economy measures implemented at Newbury saved an estimated 98,000 kg of CO 2 e

How It Works The three-tiered approach is a powerful tool for enhancing safety and inclusivity, whilst temporary road works are being delivered. To see how this concept works in practice, let’s break down the Three-Tier Assessment:

Tier 3: During Construction

Focus groups return to the worksite during construction to provide feedback on the implemented designs and suggest improvements. This ensures the roadworks continue to evolve to enhance the experience and safety of all users.

Tier 2: Design Based on Feedback New designs are created and delivered considering feedback with the insights from Tier 1.
