Employee Handbook
Drugs and alcohol
FM Conway takes our responsibility to safeguard, the health, safety and wellbeing of all employees extremely seriously.
Colleagues who attend work under the influence of drugs/alcohol seriously compromise their own safety and the safety of their colleagues.
As a responsible family business, we also understand that some of our people may be committed to changing their behaviour, and we also aim to provide a supportive environment to them.
Rules The taking of alcohol and/or any drugs that might affect your ability to work in a safe way, including ‘legal highs’ or some prescription drugs, is strictly prohibited before and during working hours, including breaks. You should also be mindful that you may be unsafe to work and/or drive the morning after using drugs or alcohol outside of working hours. It’s understood that moderate amounts of alcohol may be consumed where employees are entertaining clients or attending social functions or work-related activities outside of the normal working day. However, colleagues must ensure they are under the legal limit if driving a car and we would strongly advise that no alcohol at all should be taken if driving. Medication If you need to take prescribed or over the counter medication for a medical condition, the type of drug and its possible contra-indications must be reported to your line manager. This sensitive information will be treated confidentially. Support and confidentiality Anyone who has a drug or alcohol related problem may approach their line manager or HR in confidence and receive help and support. Any absence during a rehabilitation period will be treated as normal sickness absence.
