Great Leaders Programme - Aspiring Directors Application Summary
Mark Whelehan
BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT PROPOSAL As a leader in our sector, driven by the self-delivery model as a priority to develop innovative solutions, FM Conway are ahead. We continue to develop innovative solutions to keep this momentum and provide a USP that sets us apart; however, we need to now look beyond the day-to-day analogue processes and develop digital support capabilities to improve decisions, reliability, effectiveness and value while supporting and developing the people at the heart of day-to-day processes. Management and maintenance asset tasks are an area that currently relies on analogue processes of paper-based inspection capture, limited operational monitoring and point of failure decisions to repair. Capabilities are vast across the knowledge spectrum and range from no knowledge to extensive but isolated, and as such knowledge share is limited. By developing a platform to capture key information and supporting the individuals in the tasks will vastly enhance the operational capabilities, development of sites, teams, individuals and encourage younger more IoT savvy opportunities and employment engagement. In this area the knowledge and expertise are often “old guard” and technology training and investment has lagged, but is rapidly changing, leaving us behind. Many steps exist in the process of change and improvement in this arena and the ability to capture key information across the basic components for analysis is a focus for future developments but needs to be capable of being applied to existing assets/facilities as well as new. In summary, I would propose that we develop a reporting app based on Operative/Fitter-level inspection; data gathering, feeding into management and Engineer-level inspection/reporting, that informs and analyses to assist in decisions and functionality choices could be achieved. Developed to assist in reducing failure/downtime, operational efficiencies, capacity capabilities, spend profiling, cash outlay, customer value/satisfaction; to encompass at its core a support tool that incorporates self- delivery, technology and improvement in our carbon and environmental performance. THREE PILLARS PROPOSAL The project would focus initially on establishing what in house self-delivery elements can be achieved and or what would be required to facilitate use of specific aspects to then draw back to a one stop shop platform that supports today’s assets and future assets.
